Paid Search Became Two-Thirds of This Austin Spa's Traffic in One Month

Spa Sway is a luxury day spa and med spa in Austin, Texas. Fredhall Assembly, a referral-only creative and growth studio based in Austin, rebuilt the paid search side of its marketing at the end of June 2026. In the month that followed, paid search climbed to about 13,000 sessions, up nearly 62 percent, and accounted for roughly two-thirds of all traffic to the site.

Direct traffic dipped over the same period and organic barely moved. That is the part worth sitting with, because most marketing reports cannot tell you which lever did the work. This one can.

Who Is Spa Sway?

Spa Sway is an Austin day spa and med spa with multiple locations in the city, including Westlake and The Domain. The menu spans massage and facials on the spa side and injectables, Sculptra, Sofwave and similar treatments on the medical side. It is a premium local business competing in one of the most saturated wellness markets in Texas.

We ran an ongoing marketing program for the brand covering social, content production, email, SEO management, Google Business Profile, website work and Google Ads. We have written about the creative side of that work before, in our Spa Sway brand and digital case study. This post is about the channel that actually produced the traffic.

The Challenge

A med spa sells two very different things under one roof. Someone booking a massage is making a small, emotional, fairly spontaneous decision. Someone researching Sculptra or full-face balancing is making a considered purchase, comparing providers, and reading before they call.

Most spa advertising collapses those two people into one campaign pointed at the homepage. The result is high spend, soft intent, and a cost per booking nobody can explain.

The second problem was attribution. The brand had organic SEO work in motion, website changes queued with another vendor, social running, and email going out. When traffic moves in a setup like that, nobody can say why, so nobody can say what to fund next.

Our Approach: What Austin Med Spa Marketing Looks Like When Paid Search Carries It

We treated paid search as the fastest-moving lever in the mix and rebuilt it to be measurable on its own, rather than as one more thing contributing to a blended number.

A Campaign Per Treatment, Not One Campaign for the Brand

At the end of June 2026 we restructured the account and launched a dedicated search campaign around facials and HydraFacial rather than running everything through general spa terms.

Treatment-level campaigns matter in this category because the searcher has already told you what they want. Someone typing a treatment name is further down the path than someone typing the name of a city and the word spa, and the two deserve different copy, different budgets and different landing destinations.

Key Results

About 13,000 paid search sessions in one month

Paid search became the largest single source of traffic to the site by a wide margin.

Up nearly 62 percent month over month

The jump landed in the month immediately following the account restructure.

Roughly two-thirds of all site traffic

One channel, rebuilt, carrying the majority of everything arriving at the site.

Why It Matters

There is a version of this result that is less interesting than it looks. Paid traffic is rented. Turn off the spend and it stops, which is why no serious marketing program should rest on it alone.

What makes it worth writing about is the diagnostic value. Once you know paid search is carrying two-thirds of your traffic, you know three things you did not know before. You know where your acquisition risk sits. You know the honest size of your organic problem, because organic's momentum was not comparable. And you know which lever to pull when you need bookings this month rather than next quarter.

That is the argument we make in Where Creative Meets Performance. Creative and media are not separate disciplines. The campaign structure is a creative decision, and the reporting is what tells you whether the creative was right.

What This Means for Austin Med Spas and Wellness Brands

Austin has an unusual density of spas, med spas, wellness studios and aesthetics clinics, which means local paid search here is expensive and the brand terms are crowded. Three things follow from that.

Build campaigns around treatments rather than around the business. The searcher has told you their intent, so use it. Read your analytics by channel every month, because a blended traffic number hides the only information you can act on. And be honest about which channel is actually working, even when the answer is the one you are renting rather than the one you own.

Our Austin-based studio runs growth activation and paid media alongside social media marketing and brand strategy, because a channel result like this one is only useful if somebody is watching all of them together. We wrote about how those pieces interact in our piece on Instagram, Google Ads and your website working together.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you market a med spa in Austin?

Build paid search campaigns around individual treatments rather than the business name, since searchers in this category state their intent directly. Pair that with local organic visibility, Google Business Profile activity, and content that answers treatment questions. Read performance by channel monthly so you know which lever is producing bookings.

Is Google Ads worth it for a med spa?

It is usually the fastest lever available, because treatment searches carry high intent. For Spa Sway, a restructured account produced about 13,000 paid search sessions in a single month, up nearly 62 percent and roughly two-thirds of all site traffic. The caution is that paid traffic stops when spend stops, so it should run alongside organic work.

How long does it take for med spa Google Ads to work?

Faster than organic. A well-structured account can move traffic quickly, as it did here. Organic search and content build over quarters, which is exactly why the two should run together rather than one standing in for the other.
